What's New?

Mental Health Series - Now in 4 languages
A series of mental health topics adapted from the introductions in the National Library of Medicine's MedlinePlus Health Topics web pages have been developed. The topics are currently available in English, Russian, Somali and Spanish. Topics in this series include Anxiety, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, Mental Health, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Post Partum Depression, Schizophrenia and Suicide.

Immunization Materials
Thanks to funding from the Newcomer's Program of the Virginia Department of Health, Healthy Roads Media has been able to develop VIS (Vaccine Information Statements by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) into enhanced formats (audio, multimedia, web-video and mobile video). The full length English, Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Farsi, French, Russian and Somali versions of the MMR and Polio Vaccine VIS's are available on the website. Also, shortened versions of these VIS's in these enhanced formats are now available in these languages. These have shorter run times (2-4 minutes) and cover just the key messages. They are being created for use in clinical settings when patients are receiving multiple vaccines or in other situations where time is limited. Full length written versions of VIS are required to be given to patients who receive vaccines so no shortened versions of this format will be developed. The English and Spanish versions of the Influenza VIS have both been updated for the 2007-2008 flu season.

New Emergency Topics
Fargo Cass Public Health through CDC's Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) has supported the development of materials covering two emergency topics (How to Recognmize that Chemical Agents Have Been Used and What to do in an Emergency: A Checklist) in five languages - Bosnian, English, Kurdish, Somali and Spanish. These materials are available in five formats

iPOD Compatible Videos
As the variety consumer electronics grow and they become more common tools for information access, it is important consider how they might be useful in disseminating health information. Newer iPODs are capable of presenting both video and audio. iPOD videos can be viewed directly from the iPOD or linked to a television for a group presentation. In an effort to explore this option, a number of Healthy Roads Media videos have been reformatted and are now available. Please let us know what you think about this format!

Donations
The Public Health Institute is now serving as our fiscal partner for donations. This is being done through the Network for Good which provides a way for non-profits to accept support in an accountable manner. Please consider providing support to Healthy Roads Media to keep the health information freely available to everyone, to expand the collection and to maintain quality.
